Today in Values, we learned about risk-taking.  The kind of risk-taking we are talking about is the things that we can do to develop our learning, enjoy new experiences and grow as people.  

We discussed what our comfort zone is and how we need to take different paths at times, often feeling like risks, where we may feel uncomfortable and out of our comfort zone.  This is where the learning, growth and enjoyment happens.  

We decided to create our learning about our own comfort zones by using either a Google Drawing or Mind Map.

Orana park trip 2019

Orana Park trip 2019

On the 19th of September Te ara Takitini had a trip to Orana wildlife park. When we arrived there we had to go over some rules. Once we went into the wildlife park we went and sat down and had morning tea. We had ten minutes for morning tea and then we went off to explore some animals and learn cool facts about them. The first animal we saw was the porcupines. Te are Takitini had an amazing time at Orana Park. If you go down there will be pictures of some of the animals we saw.

I learned that the tiger skin is also striped so If you take off its fur it stripes will still be there. They take turns out said and in said because they don't like two in at a time.

 I learned that Orangutan like to carry their blankets around it to keep it warm and it was sharing the blanket so they all get to keep warm they all are out and in at the same time they like to be with each other.

Also, I learned that the male lions weigh more than the female lions. they were calm and as soon as they head us they got up it was good to see them.

Floating rubbish

Hi people its Cayleigh here 

This week I'm gonna be writing about rubbish.

Lately, there has been rubbish down in the sea.

 we're not saving the animals that are living in the sea most animals we are killing most animals in the sea The rubbish is floating in the water and the plastic down to the bottom and then Turtles to get stuck in the plastic and they can die because of all the rubbish and it is bad for the animals so we have beautiful clean sea.

This week we have been learning about Earthquakes and I have been doing a lot of work to do it is about Earthquakes.

So first We had got told what we were learning about and we got told what we are learning and then we got told to go and start and then we had to make a slide and put your work on it.

Next, We had to do DLO and we had to put what we know about Earthquakes and had to put it on a DLO we had to put it on our blog and we had to put all of the stuff that we know about Earthquakes.

At last, We had to put it on our blog and we had to write what we did this week and we had to write what we had to do this week and we had to put what we know about Earthquakes.

Hurricanes

On Monday in literacy, we started learning about hurricanes.

First... We made a google slide and we have to put all of the information in the slide about the hurricane and what we know about a hurricane and we have been learning about the hurricane and I know a lot about a hurricane now so we can do a lot about a hurricane.

Next... We had to do three different texts and we had to do and then we went had to put information on the slide and I have done a lot then I wound do and I like learning about hurricanes and we like to learn about a hurricane.

Lastly... We had to put it on our blog and we have to write an intro to tall what we leaned about hurricanes we have to put it all on a side and on a blog post and it was and we had to write more than we have been doing hurricanes for the week now.

I like learning about a hurricane and I know more then I did.

I think it is a good idea to get our Dog a dog friend because it will be nice to get a boy dog, cookie will love it she we have fun. Mum, it is a good idea you can get a girl dog I will feed it and do the lawns for 1 mouth. You can just look after carter. I will look after the dogs and I will take the dogs for a walk. I will do a lot to help if you get a dog. I need a dog or a cat and I will do a lot for it. I want a nice and small dog friend that is blonde with a black on it too. we can get the dog a bit of staff she can put on her to make clothes for the dog the dog will look pretty. She will look like a star she will light up when you look at her she will look like a star. I like to get a new dog it will be a cute dog it will be a nice dog it will have to be a small dog and we can get the dog some shoes and we carter shoes.

Starfish that live deep in the sea are sometimes bioluminescent.

However, most starfish don't Glow.

the starfish you see on the beach or shallow water don't give light stars do.

instead, starfish get their name from their Shape.

do starfish have Blood???

Sea stars live only in saltwater and Seawater.

instead of blood is Actually used to pump nutrients through their bodies via a water vascular System.

However, this does not mean that all sea stars have five arms and species with 10,20 or even 40 arms Exist

Matariki Celebrations

So this week we are doing been doing  Matariki and we have to do it for this week and  this is what I read.

Some Māori tribes believed that it was the rising of the star Puanga (Rigel in Orion) which marked the new year, not Matariki. Hence the saying: ‘Puanga kai rau’ (Puanga of plentiful food). This change was explained to the scholar Elsdon Best by a Māori elder: ‘The task of Puanga is to try with Matariki (the Pleiades) so he may gain possession of the year.’

Traditionally, Māori were keen watchers of the night sky, finding out from the stars the time and seasons, and using them to navigate the oceans. Lookouts would watch for the rise of Matariki just before dawn. For Māori, this time was important for remembrance and celebration.

I also read this one 

Matariki celebrations were popular before the arrival of Europeans in New Zealand, and they continued into the 1900s. They dwindled, with one of the last traditional festivals recorded in the 1940s. At the beginning of the 21st century Matariki celebrations were started again. Their popularity has led to some to suggest that Matariki should replace the Queen’s birthday as a national holiday.

When Te Rangi Huata organised his first Matariki celebrations in Hastings in 2000, about 500 people joined him. In 2003, 15,000 people came. Te Rangi Huata believes that Matariki is becoming more popular because it celebrates Māori culture and in doing so brings together all New Zealanders: ‘It’s becoming a little like Thanksgiving or Halloween, except it’s a celebration of the Maori culture here in (Aotearoa) New Zealand. It’s New Zealand’s Thanksgiving.’
