Christchurch Earthquakes

 Christchurch Earthquakes

Christchurch

How have the Christchurch earthquakes had an impact on our city?
Some buildings caught fire after the February earthquake. Damage to buried pipes allowed sewage to enter the water so people had to boil their tap water so then all the poo that drooped in the water has gone.

What positive or negatives have come from the quakes?
That we got new building because of all the damage on the building and lots of people died because of how bad it was.

What are some changes that citizens have made to prevent damage happening from potential future earthquakes?
They put tsunami warning system around the shores to warn people of a possible tsunami so they can get to high ground so they not drown.

My favorite place in Christchurch is botanical gardens because of how nice it looks and it is a nice place people go to hang out and have a play with there kids.

Early polynesian navigation

This week we have been doing stuff around Early Polynesian navigation and we have put it all in a docs and we have put all the information that we know about the Early Polynesian navigation and we had to put it all on a planing paper. This is what I know about the Early Polynesian navigation.

Early Polynesian navigation

How did you find your way around? Polynesian way finders navigate the pacific ocean using sun+moon and fish+debris/vegetation sun-rose in the east and set in the west. That they didn´t have technology like we do now.

The north stars got fixed points, the southern cross showed where south was. The stars got fixed points because all the stars needed to get fixed points. That the stars don´t change where they are in the sky.

Clouds are all in a big group of clouds could be above mountains all clouds. Reflected to all different islands the clouds always reflected to all the islands that they see. They get reflected to the islands because of all the stuff on the islands.

Birds that are near the island are there because they can only fly 190km. A whole range of fight, flight patterns flew back to shore. They navigators knew the birds were heading back to land because they knew how to tell if the birds were tired.

In conclusion the polynesian navigators used the southern cross to show where south was. They used different ways of navigating to help get them where they wanted to go.

Gold Rush

Gold Rush

We had to watch a video about gold rush and now we have to writing the answers to the questions and the questions are on the video. We have to do a blog post of what we have learned and we also have been doing other stuff a round gold rush.

What does the scenery look like in Hunter’s Gold. Use descriptive words It looks like it is fake but its not fake but that is what it looks like you could see old houses and green grass and you could see what it looked like in the old days and what it all looked like.
How do you think the little boy felt when his father didn’t return? He felt sad because he wanted to see his father but he didn't come Why do you think he felt that way? because his dad didn't come and he was happy to see his father also he felt up set because he has not seen his dad for a a long time.

Think of time when you haven’t seen someone for a long time. Who was it? My best friends Why couldn’t you see them? because we were in lock down How were you feeling while you waited to see them again? happy because I get to see them again.

I learned that the gold rush started in 24 January 1848 and that they didn't have cars and I learned that it looks a lot harder back then then it is now. New Zealand gold rush

Matariki

Matariki

In the Maori language, Matariki is both the name of the Pleiades star cluster and also of the season of its first rising in late May or early June. This is a marker of the beginning of the new year. Twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki (the Pleiades) signals the Maori New Year. Traditionally, it was a time for remembering the dead, and celebrating new life. In the 21st century, observing Matariki has become popular again. Heaven-bound kites, hot-air balloons and fireworks help mark the occasion. It is 7 sisters and its about family Bye!!
