Reading: Activating Prior Knowledge

When we read something  new we are often reminded of thing we already know about the text we read, It might be something we've done before, read about seen on Tv, or seen at the movies. This is called prior knowledge. We activate our prior knowledge to help us understand the text better.

We read a text called "Jump" and Mr Mitchell told us about when he went bungy jumping, which helped us with our work because he has already been bungy jumping so that helped us. It helps us because we are reading about bungy jumping. Now we actually know how scary it really is to go bungy jumping. That helped us with our prior and knowledge.
